He had no idea what the she-demon would do, but he was convinced that it would be most unpleasant. At one point, she raised her voice in response to something one of the guards mentioned and it sounded like someone was screaming. He had never heard anything like that before - it sounded like the rest of the world had gone away and they were just there in this dark room with nothing but malice to mark their progress with. It wasn't just her voice either - there was a certain quality to her scream that shook him more than anything else ever could have - more than when they found his father's body on his way out of the house, for instance. It was like a physical force that pushed him back into his chair and caused him to close his eyes against the blackness that she showed. Then it was over and he could see them again. His eyes were still closed. He was almost surprised to find himself sitting there, staring off into the darkness at nothing in particular. The silence had been replaced by an awkward feeling of uncertainty and he wondered what they would do next; if they would come back tomorrow or if she would send them on their way. If they did come back, it wouldn't be for at least another ten minutes - not until the three of them had sat there in silence for five minutes without speaking once. It felt like forever. That was when he heard the first noise, coming from somewhere behind him. It was soft and faint but unmistakable; there was someone in the room with them, breathing heavily as if struggling for air. And then he heard something else; another noise that sounded almost like a growl, or perhaps some sort of animal cry. Slowly, he turned his head to see what was making the sound and it took him a moment to realise what it was: there were more than two of them now, but he still couldn't see anything in the darkness around him. He started to rise from his seat as the first one stepped into view, but the movement caused the other two to start moving as well. He could see them now - there were three of them and they looked like demons, but not like any he had ever seen before. The closest thing he could compare them to was humanoid reptiles: their limbs and bodies were covered by scaly, grey scaled skin and they both carried themselves with a sort of cat-like grace; long legs and arms folded up out of sight beneath barely there outfits that flared out at either end like a pair of shorts. All of them wore masks that were more than simply painted on - they had been designed to fit each one's face perfectly and were held in place over their mouths by a series of straps going underneath their heads. There was something slightly familiar about them, though he couldn't put his finger on what it was until he saw the third one in the room. It was a man - a living, breathing man in a black suit and tie with long black hair hanging around his face, obscuring most of it from view. He recognised him immediately: it was one of the men from the hall earlier that night, except that he wasn't moving. cfa1e77820
